Kayla began eating baby food!!! She started right before her five month mark. I'm making her food at home rather than buying it. The cost alone is worth it but it is also nice to know exactly what she's eating. We started off with sweet potatoes. And she loves them!
Here's how I did it...
I baked three large sweet potatoes, peeled them, cut them and dropped them in my little food chopper. Then I added a little formula milk to thin them out and poured them into my just washed ice cube trays. Wrapped them in plastic wrap and put them in the freezer for a few hours. Once they were frozen I popped them out of the trays and put them all in a large plastic zip lock baggies and put them back in the freezer. When we want to feed her we just grab two or three of them (their about 1oz each) and pop them in the microwave on defrost. So easy!!!
We were only feeding her once every other day. But now, that she will be turning 6 months next week she will start having it everyday, and soon, a couple times a day. When I choose to nurse or I should say I prayed to be able to nurse, my goal was to do so for the first six months. I needed a goal as I knew it would be a challenge. But now that I'm about there the goal is getting extended to nine months. I'm so thankful the Lord answered those prayers it truly is a blessing being able to nurse.
Next we did butternut squash. Used the same process and she likes those as well.

I love that we will never waste another banana again. I just throw the one's that are two ripe to eat in the freezer and when I get three to four of them I get to baking. This bread turns out SUPER MOIST every time I bake it.
Here's the easy recipe...

Grandpa Scherb's Birthday!
I'm so far behind in blogging its crazy. So I've decided to just do them as fast as possible by not being "chatting cathy" and trying not to be such a perfectionist. So here's the first of many... I hope!
My father in law turned 60 years young! They came down from Rockwell, my brother in law Zach and his wife Amy came over from Council bluffs. We met up with them and my brother in law Chris for lunch at Legends. (And to watch football of course because there was a Hawkeye game on)

Fall fun
Wow what a fall its been. Its been beautiful outside and we have been busy. I love to go to pumpkin patches but this year our budget is tight, so I decided to see what I could find for us to do that was totally FREE!
Let me tell you I found plenty!
Our first free event was at the Johnston public library where we dressed the kids in their costumes and Kiara got to play games, win candy, make a mask craft and have a snack.
The second night of free fun was dressing up the whole family in costumes and going to the valley west mall for trick or treating. Then off to bible study where we happened to be the only people dressed up, but everyone else did put on their orange and fall colors!
The third day of fall fun was when we went to the Great pumpkin party at Valley evangelical free church with my little sister Amanda. I have to say this was my personal favorite of our activities. The event was huge!
They had people handing out cups of popcorn, glow sticks and a sack with all sorts of great coupons and church info in it, as you walked in.
The entryway hall was packed. They had a photographer set up with a fun fall background where you could get your pictures taken
They also had a ton of science stuff, like cool magnets and gooey stuff and fun water beads to stick your hands in. They even had a mad science lab show several times through out the day!
On the other side of the entryway they had a large face painting and temporary tattoo station set up. Video games from Incredible's pizza, a leaf craft, a clown making balloon animals and a cannon shooting station. Oh and there were people handing out candy everywhere! We really enjoyed the science stuff and making the leaf craft!
Next in the big sanctuary was five huge bouncy things. This was Kiara's favorite for sure! I lost count how many times she went through them all. First there was the obstacle course one with a slide at the end, then the one you jump around in, then the one you jump around in with a slide, then the one that was a enormous slide! I was so proud of her and couldn't believe how much more brave she was this year with climbing! She climbed up things I thought for sure she would be afraid to.
THEN there was downstairs too!!! This is where you could purchase lunch or have some free ice cream from coldstone. yummy chocolate! They also had three game rooms which was also lots of fun.
Our last night of free fall fun was going trick or treating outside a small church, then onto the Guck house (where Kiara and I lived before I married Josh), beaverdale neighborhood and to Papa's house. My mom joined us for this fun evening. Josh dressed as a pirate, I was a rock singer, Kiara and Kayla were ballerina's and my mom was a pumpkin! SO MUCH FUN!

Monday family funday, Punkin carvin!
Monday Oct. 10th we choose to decorate our pumpkins. Kiara received a black cat that you just poke into the pumpkin rather than carving, from grandma Diane so we started with that one. Thanks grandma!
Next came the mess part! We cut the top to the big pumpkin and began scooping out the insides! Daddy was excited to clean and bake them. We tried to choose a not so scary picture for our pumpkin. It was a catbat! We all had a hand in helping with the cutting. Here's Daddy working hard.

Here's the finished product. It turned out a little creeper than we wanted but oh well, it was still fun!
